THE CHARGERS STACK OF CARDS

$ 22,814,223 in cap space. That is where the chargers are at. Anyone can so spend money in today's free agency frenzy. It doesn't require any talent to do so. But to spend it wisely requires much more.

 I'll be the first one to criticize this team I don't hold any punches but when you have 19 million in cap space you can't go out and buy a 11 million a year player. 1. You can't afford it, 2. MOST IMPORTANT If that player doesn't work out you have created a giant fucking hole in future spending by creating dead money.What you can do is not to sign the big time free agents at 11 million a year but fill certain holes with less tier guys. Those players play rotations and create depth and plays special teams. The intangible that wins and loses NFL games that is not necessarily in your box score the next day.

The beginning of Free Agency is like New Years Eve. Among the chaos and the insanity is all the rookies and amateurs are out spending recklessly They going through their cap space being wrapped up in the wave of the excitement and instant notoriety with the reaction seeking reaction from what transaction you just made.

 The pros drinkers drink alcohol every night. But they don't go out on New Years Eve. They leave that evening for the kids.  They wait for that wave to settle. Wait for the calm. Then they do what they know how to do. Then they play their hands. That is Tom Telesco and the Chargers in 2018 free agency. Teams are showing their hands unable to even play a poker face seeking immediate reaction and results that won't show itself for months. Why fold until you have too. Telesco still building the cards that he is going to play. Why the hell is this song in my head?

 Free Agency starts officially in less than 24 hours and already some fans and media want to diagnosed something that hasn't even been exposed yet. It is part of this new age media and social media. It's too bad Hacksaw Hamilton never got this new age social media down. He went have been great at it.

 We all want to know who is going to get released, Who is going to restructure and Who is coming to the team who is new but preseason don't start for another 6 months.

LISTEN I'm going to give you some advice. The Chargers are focused on resigning and letting players go right now. \They have to create some more cap space for Telesco to operate. In May they will have mini camp. Everyone will get together and they will discuss picking up a couple of 4-6 $million dollar a year guys. They pick up 1 or 2 before then of course.

They are still in talks for depth at DT with Eagles FA Beau Allen.  he is not going to be the starter but fill in guys are just as important as starters on the 53 man roster in September.

Sammy Watkins to Chiefs 3 years $48 million and $30 million is guaranteed.

Drew Brees resigned with the Saints 2 years $50 million

Sam Bradford 1 year $20 million

Malcolm Butler 5 years $61 million

Kirk Cousins 3 years $84 million

I'm good with the Chargers not taking place in the 1st wave of free agency. I was have. Their is 4 waves of free agency. The first one is a spending frenzy. With questions to be answered on Antonio Gates, Kenny Wiggins, Tre Boston, Matt Slauson staying or going he can make moves to fill a hole unless you know exactly what holes need to be filled.

You can't get a safety in free agency then resign Tre Boston. If Boston returns it not a hole.

You can't get a center because if Slauson resigns and plays guard with Feeney at center we don't need a center we need a guard. The entire need changed a position with a small transaction with Matt Slauson.

At least 6 teams have jumped into a bidding war for RB Dion Lewis. I believe the team pulled out of these talks but are heavily involved in talks with former Eagle DT Beau Allen.

The team is waiting for some things to sort out before resolving the Antonio Gates question.

Later tonight or tomorrow morning we should get some answers on the Chargers UFA. After that you can began to examine the cards you have in your hands. That is when the pros play their hands. Right now they are just letting the kids play.
