MORE CONSISTENCY IN 2018 FOR CHARGERS

Consistency is defined as holding together or retaining form. Dean has always believed in the philosophy almost to a fault with Norv Turner and Mike McCoy.

With all the transition in the off season with the relocation to LA and players looking for homes. One thing is assured in 2018. The coordinators on both sides of the ball will be calling the plays. The Packers, Bears, and Seahawks all contacted Gus Bradley on the day his contract expired with the Chargers.

This was vital to Tom Telesco and Coach Lynn in the post season press conference. They wasted no time in locking up these two men for 2018 and Bradley with a 3 year deal. This basically assures  Philip Rivers will have the same offensive coordinator until he retires after the 2019 season. It also allows Whisenhunt to work with possible Rivers future replacement the next 2 years. They have scouted several round 1 projected QB already with the Senior Bowl and Combine looking ahead.

Gus Bradley led a young defense to only improve as the season went along. They finished 15th overall in defense and the improving play of Bosa and Ingram played a major factor in the success of the defense. The passing defense rose up to be 3rd in passing while not so successful on the ground ending with only the Redskins with a worst run defense. The Chargers 11 INT and 4 fumbles saved a 9-7 season from what could have been another 5 win season.

The offense which struggled throughout the season at being a constancy  on the field did produce a 4,000 yard passing season for Rivers and 1,000 yards receiving for Keenan Allen and Melvin Gordon reaching 1,000 yards on the ground.

The offense put itself into holes often starting the games in which the Chargers only scored 37 1st quarter point all year. They failed to score in the 1st quarter in 11 games this year.

Now with the play callers on both sides of the ball returning and special teams coach brought back with 1 year remaining on his deal the staff can concentrate on making additions and subtractions to improve on their 2017 9-7 season.

Chargers fans in San Diego seem to have rejoice in the two coordinators returning the reaction in LA was...well...

Thanks for reading.
